Penn-co Construction Starts Work on a New Kind of Community in Steinbach

Steinbach, Manitoba: Penn-co Construction announced the formation of a new company, Agassiz Shore Developments today and officially broke ground for their first residential development in Steinbach, Langill Farm.

Agassiz Shore is a unique development company that values creating spaces for connection within their communities, and an “age-in-place” concept. Age-in-place communities celebrate and intentionally accommodate every season of life, from the university student to young families, retirees, and seniors.

The name itself, Agassiz Shore, gives a nod to the great glacial Lake Agassiz that changed the Manitoba landscape and reflects their desire to change the way Manitobans think about new communities. Langill Farm is named after John Peter and Jane Langill who homesteaded the land in 1873.

The move to residential development is a major move for Penn-co which has largely focused on commercial construction since it was founded in 1959 by Abram K. Penner and his two sons and has never tackled a project like a residential development.

“Although a residential development is a new initiative for Penn-co, this has been a personal dream of mine for a long time.” says [Dan Reimer], President at Penn-co. “Historically Penn-co has done some home construction but never at this scale and not for a number of years. Langill Farm reflects a new kind of thinking when it comes to rural residential developments, and I know that Steinbach is ready for it!”

Langill Farm will be the first and flagship development for Agassiz Shore and will include key features:

  • Above average green space allotment including a lake, walking paths, and large park with playground, soccer pitches, a dog park, and tennis courts
  • High, medium, and low-density housing that will accommodate any season of life
  • A peace-filled rural lifestyle with amenities such as city sewer and water
